David George Goodburn Obituary - 2022 (2024)

David George Goodburn age 89, of Madelia, Minnesota died on February 13, 2022, at his home.

David George Goodburn was born to James and Verna (Williams) Goodburn on June 29th, 1932 in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. He attended the Country School up until 8th grade and later graduated from Madelia High School in 1950. After graduation, David was drafted in to the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict 1952-1954. He was honorably discharged with the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Once David returned home, he drove school bus and gas trucks until he began farming full time in 1958. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Ardis Burley at the Lincoln Baptist Church in rural Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Together they raised 3 children, James "Jim", John, and Laurie and for the next 62 years they were busy farming, raising a family and making a lifetime of memories.

David was a member, deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent of the former Lincoln Baptist Church of Lincoln Township. He attended Highland Baptist Church in St. James, MN. For 52 years, David was a supervisor on the Madelia Township Board. He had a good ear for hearing when anything was wrong with machinery. Incredibly, and in true farmer fashion, David managed to combine all of the corn last fall. Most of all, David will be remembered for his hard work, his kind and gentle ways and the ability to help others with dignity and respect, and how much he truly loved and cherished each and every member of his family. They were all so special to him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ardis (Burley) Goodburn; children, James "Jim" Goodburn of Billings, MT, John (Beth) Goodburn of Madelia and Laurie (Joe) Gasner of Madelia; grandchildren, Kristina (Joe) Miller, Ryan (Hope) Goodburn, Adam Goodburn, Jena (Pat) Culhane, Josh (Jordan Schultz) Goodburn, Julia Goodburn and her fiance Jack VanderStelt, David (Dana) Gasner, Michael (Lindsay) Gasner; great grandchildren, Ben, Evan and Parker Miller, Rowan Goodburn, Quinn and Elliot Culhane, Alivia and Ryan Goodburn, Elizabeth Gasner, Allison and Madeline Gasner; brothers, Lawrence Goodburn, Donald (Marcella) Goodburn. David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Verna (Williams) Goodburn; sister, Kathleen Luiken; brother, Clarence Goodburn; brother-in-law, Robert Luiken; sisters-in-law, Eva Lou Goodburn and Lynne Goodburn.
Blessed be his memory.
